Navoiuran intends to extract uranium from black shale together with China's China Nuclear Uranium. The foreign delegation got acquainted with the development of several uranium deposits in Uzbekistan, samples were taken from them.
The Navoiuran company plans to use the technologies of the Chinese China Nuclear Uranium (CNUC) to develop uranium deposits of the black shale type, the press service of the enterprise reported.

The CNUC delegation got acquainted with the development of several uranium deposits included in the Navoiuran resource base. At the meeting with Chinese experts, issues of technologies for the development of black shale uranium mines and prospects for cooperation were discussed, the message says. Technological samples were taken from these deposits to extract uranium and rare earth metals from the mined uranium ore.

Since the early 2000s, Uzbekistan has been trying to attract foreign investors to the development of black shale uranium deposits, which require significant investments due to the need to extract other metals from ore. A significant part of Navoiuran's resources includes sandstone uranium deposits, which are more accessible for development.

In July 2022, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved uranium production targets, which are planned to be increased to 7,100 tons in 2030 (twice as much as in 2022). According to the IAEA, Uzbekistan ranks seventh in the world in terms of uranium reserves and fifth in terms of its production.
